“you can feel the vibration under your feet and the air hit your chest….”

I grew up in a church with floor to ceiling stained glass windows and a pipe organ that you felt…

My young mind would wander, but I would be surrounded by moving lights and color as the sun shifted during the service. The Biblical characters would come alive and walk…

Water would drip off of John’s hands as he baptized Jesus.

Mary and Martha were busy at the house.

Jesus’s back was bent under the wood of the cross…

…and the pipe organ would carry me up to the vaulted cathedral ceiling

Deep base notes shook my chest and I became the air around me.

There is a transcendence that God created through artisans.

They alone can give voice and image to the God Who Is.

I learned of a sad reality in the church while in seminary… “worship wars”…

Quite services verses loud, contemporary music verses hymns…

Somehow the Bride forgot whom she was dancing with.
